GRADING & PROMOTIONS

We progress in aikido by training for and completing a series of promotion examinations. Most everyone can benefit from studying aikido, physically, mentally and spiritually.

 

The grading system in aikido is similar to many other Japanese martial arts.

​Youth grades start with 10th Kyu, progressing as far as 6th Kyu. Youth wear colored belts based on rank.

Adult ranks progress from 5th Kyu to 1st Kyu, usually wearing a white belt. Sometimes colors are worn.

The black belt ranks follow, from 1st Dan up to 8th Dan.
