This year, besides our annual Winter Camp over Presidents Day weekend, we will host two other major international seminars.

in mid-February.

We host an instructor sent to Hawaii from Aikikai Hombu Dojo, the World Headquarters of aikido. We have been privileged to hold this event every year since 1990.

, Over Labor Day weekend (early September) we hold our Fall Seminar. These events sometimes feature local Hawaii instructors, but we often have brought senior Shihan from Japan to teach here in Hilo.

We encourage all Hawaii aikidoka to participate with these great teachers and to train with members from many dojos near and far!

Kagami Biraki literally translates to "opening the mirror." At the start of each new year, we reflect on years past and set goals for the future.

Every January, dojo members gather for a special joint training, demonstration, ceremony and celebration to rededicate ourselves
to the practice of Aikido.

This year's Kagami Biraki celebration will begin with an all levels class at the dojo at 3pm followed by rank presentations and celebration. Everyone is invited to join us for this special day.

New Year's Training

December 31, 2015 - January 1, 2016

Every year to help ring in the new year, we meet at the dojo for training at 11:30pm on 12/31. We practice together for an hour, bringing us into the new year.

After class, we take an optional excursion to the Hilo Daijingu for a traditional blessing to help welcome the new year.

Twice annually our dojo members have to opportunity to take examinations for rank promotion.

We look forward to many members demonstrating their skills and progressing through the ranks of aikido training.

Testing is a learning experience which helps each of us to grow in our practice.
